You have spent time listening, and now you want to learn how to offer that experience to someone else. Sound healing training gives you a place to explore the instruments, ask questions, and develop your work alongside other practitioners.
Sound healing training at OSO
OSO Sound Healing is a practitioner-led studio in Los Angeles, founded by Avery Whitmore. Our training programs make room for sound, creativity, and the care involved in working with people.
We offer in-person and online ways to learn. The 12-week virtual training brings the work into a live online format. Foundations 101 offers an introduction you can explore at your own pace. Visit the training calendar for current in-person programs and upcoming dates.
Learning with Avery Whitmore
Avery’s work brings together sound, breath, & meditation. As the founder of OSO, he works across studio sessions, practitioner training, and the instruments themselves.
Learning in a practitioner-led setting gives you a place to bring practical questions: how to choose an instrument, how to listen while you play, and how to shape a session around the people receiving it.
What to look for in a training
Time with the instruments
Look for opportunities to play and listen, with guidance on handling the instruments and choosing suitable mallets. Ask what equipment is available during an in-person program and what you need at home for an online course.
Facilitation and care
Playing is one part of offering a session. Preparing the space, communicating with participants, and responding to requests all deserve attention. Read the curriculum to see how a program approaches those responsibilities.
Music and listening
Notes, intervals, and rhythm give you practical ways to describe what you hear. You can use that language when selecting instruments, asking for feedback, or making choices within a session.
Practice and feedback
Ask how much practice is included and how feedback is offered. Check the balance of live teaching, independent study, and any assignments before deciding whether the format works with your schedule.
Clear certification requirements
Review the attendance and assessment requirements for the program you are considering. Each course page should explain what is included and what you need to complete.
Choosing a starting point
You may be exploring sound for yourself, adding it to an existing yoga or meditation practice, or preparing to facilitate sessions. Start with your experience, the time you have available, and the kind of teaching support you want.
