The gongs in our Los Angeles studio are part of our sound baths, instrument collection, and training work. You can hear them alongside crystal singing bowls and other instruments, or arrange an instrument visit to spend time with the collection.
Listening to a gong
A practitioner can play a gong with mallets or friction tools. The choice of tool and where it meets the metal changes how the instrument responds. A recording of the individual gong can help you hear those differences before an in-person visit.
In a session, the practitioner also chooses when to leave space. Listening includes the sound as it begins, the time it continues, and the pause before the next instrument.
Our Grotta Sonora collection
We carry Grotta Sonora gongs. The maker handcrafts and tunes its instruments in Italy, working with several metal alloys, sizes, and designs. You can read about its process on the Grotta Sonora website.
When comparing instruments, check the individual listing for dimensions and the recorded demonstration. Consider where the gong will hang, how much room you have to play, and how you will transport it.
Gongs within our sound baths
Our practitioners bring gongs together with bowls and other instruments. The selection and pacing vary by session and facilitator.
For your first visit, read the class description before booking. You can ask us about the format, seating, or volume in advance. If you want to hear a particular instrument, mention it when you contact us.
Learning to play
Instrument handling and listening are useful places to begin. A suitable stand, an appropriate mallet, and room to move around the gong are practical parts of setting up.
Our training pages explain the current programs and their instrument work. Check the curriculum for the course you are considering, and ask which instruments will be included.
